Characters for design assignment2: Rationale
For my characters for design assignment 2,
I've made a character for 'Monster house animation'.
But because concept of monster house isn't quite light and it is more like a light horror film as well, i wanted to create a character which suited film concept.
Therefore I've created slimy, groggy, kind of looking anthropomorphic couch
designed to be abandoned inside the monster house.
The reason why my character isn't obviously sharp and dangerous looking is because Monster house is kid's film,
but because it is categorized under horror i wanted to make something that is round shaped but which looks unpleasant to touch at the same time.
My character uses arms as a leg so it could walk around with it's arms as well.
I didn't want lots of human detail for my model, but by having some human feature i matched few concept and characteristics of Monster house animation.

Characters for design assignment2: Final model
I've created something similar for my recent thumbnail so I've just refined my previous model for my final character.
Turntable for my character.
I've smoothed the surface and made rough surfaces more smooth.
I've added cotton popping out of the head so it looks more real.
I added blue lighting because monster house is very creepy and weird animation for me:)
and most of the characters in the monster house has cold lighting.

Characters for design Assignment2: Final design sketch
It is funny how i haven't got formal shape for my character.
but i think it is fine because it is dripping down anyway
Ice cream don't have a shape too when it melts.
the tongue of the character will be a rug
and the teeth will be a broken wood pieces
I tried to make my character lose it's form when it opens up a mouth like this
by doing this i feel like it has lost it's control and it is more angrier.

Details
Bird's eye point of view
At first I've tried to make my monster very dark using purple and blood red.
I've added blood puddle so i could make it even scarier.
I was totally going for..
this i guess.
ok.. it is a bit scary.

Then i thought it would be too much because monster house is a kid's animation
well I don't think so but a review says it is so i changed my concept
I've changed blood puddle into a cotton by adding more to it using my brush,
cotton on the couch arm is bursting out.
My concept was an old broken anthropomorphic couch abandoned in a monster house.

Old sofa (referenced color and the texture)
Cotton bursting out
broken spring
What I have to do:
I'm planning to create this couch opening up a mouth.
I'm thinking of fixing the teeth into a broken wood piece
so it is sharp but has the wood texture so it looks more natural as a couch.
the reason i thought this was because in monster house movie
you can clearly see that the house it self is made out of a material.
so his teeth is made out of wood, the hands are trees, the eyes are windows.
and the head are made out of roof tiles.
I might just do a brief sketch before i go further just so i know what to develop clearly.
characters for design assignment2: Zbrush anthropomorphic couch creation process
So I've started to build up my couch by using basic shapes.
two rectangles and another big square for a body.
and then i made a teeth sharper, shaped the arm and put two holes for eyes
i stretched my shape at the back to make it look like if it was dripping or melting.
Then i added a puddle or something that is coming out from the couch.
Added little more dripping details on the back
Then i made a nose for a couch+ i smoothed the arm. I've tried to shape a feature more so it looks more like a face.
Added more little detail drips on the back.
Then i colored it and contrasted using variable colors.

characters for design assignment2: concept+ zbrush experiment
character concept: groggy+ melting kind of look.
still thinking if i should make it icy and sharp
and then have fun with colour
or make it slimy+grungy.
or see through could be fun,
so we could see all those springs and cottons in the couch.
Just a reference from pokemon.
i'm trying to make my couch as dark as possible.
because at the moment it seems a bit too cute for me.
+ My zbrush is doing weird things again from 2 days ago. i wouldn't let me draw or sculpt anything. Well, I'll have to do more work on this at school because i don't know exact problem for this;.
